~~~;~-i <br />Proposed Don Julen, representing Northome Shopping Center, Inc., presented <br />Shopping plans covering proposed improvements in the new shopping area <br />Center at the southeast corner of Larpenteur and Snelling avenues. <br />improvements Julen reported that the property owner had made application <br />for a building permit to remodel the west wall of Applebaum's <br />store and for the necessary curb cuts for entrance and exit <br />purposes. After discussion, Cartwright moved that the <br />Remodel west building inspector be authorized to issue permit for remodeling <br />wall of Applebaum's of the west wall of Applebaum's store. Seconded by Nilsen <br />s~b~re and motion carried unanimously. <br />After discussion of the proposed driveways and blacktopping, <br />Cartwright moved that the building inspector be authorized to <br />issue permit for driveways and blacktopping of the parking <br />Driveways and area immediately beyond the Cities Service filling station, <br />blacktopping subject to said plans and specifications, with permission to <br />secure engineering advice from the Village engineer if necessary <br />to determine proper elevations and drainage, and approval of <br />of necessary curb cuts for entrance and exit purposes by the <br />County Traffic engineer. Seconded by Shavor and motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />Mr. Julen also discussed with the council and neighborhood <br />p qty residents, Mrs. Ora C. Wood, 1525 Idaho AvenueV~j and Mrs. Frank <br />Vacan-~ pro C p. Convey, 1531Idaho Ave. ~dest, proposed improvements for the <br />on Rron a bchina Northome Shopping Center's vacant property on Arona avenue <br />biz 6~K. Svu+h ~f behind the business block south of Larpenteur, and drainage <br />La vpcn+e~ r into the ditch on the west side of Arona. Julen said they <br />would like to use the lot on Arona for employees' parking, <br />would like to see culverts in there, improvement of the <br />boulevard, planting of a shrub screen and the installation of <br />sidewalks by the owner depending on pedestrian traffic. <br />Streets and Cartwright read a letter from Mayor Utecht regarding the <br />alleys status of street and alley work and recommending termination <br />of the Village engineer's services. Vernon L. Ljungren, of <br />the Village Engineer's staff, was present and reported on a <br />meeting Don Carley had with Mr. Crampton of the County Engineer's <br />office, at which street work to be done by County forces was <br />discussed. Bm2hh respect to drainage at Arona and California, <br />L~nngren reported that permission was not received until this <br />evening from Mr. Stepnitz to run the water into the ditch <br />west of Arona. Crampton, he said, informed the Villa ge Engineer <br />that our streets and improved alleys, incldding Hollywood Court, <br />would b e taken care of in less than a month. After discussion <br />of the Arona and California drainage matter, Cartwright moved <br />that we authorize~t the Village Engineer to correct the situation <br />by surface drainage into the ditch on the west side of Arona. <br />Seconded by Shavor and motion carried unanimously. <br />Street plan- The Clerk reported that the Chairman of the .Planning Commission <br />technical assistance had discussed the matter of preparing an over-all primary <br />authorized street plan for the unplatted areas south of Larpenteur and <br />west of Snelling, with Mr. Ljungren. He said the Planning <br />Commission members do not have the time to make the survey <br />and do the work, and that the Commission feels we should have. <br />a professional job.
