s ~, ~, <br />Garage permitted Mr. Wayne Sorenson, 1537 West Iowa, appeared before the Council <br />16 ft. from to request permission to build a detached garage 16 feet from <br />adjoining property instead of 20 feet from the garage on the adjoining property <br />at 1529 6Vest Iowa. A letters dated July 9, 1956, with notarized <br />signature of Mr. James C. McGuire as the owner of the adjoining <br />property at 1529 west Iowa, was read, agreeing to Mr. Sorenson's <br />request. After a full discussion of the matter and applicable <br />ordinance provisions, Shavor moved that Mr. Sorenson's request <br />be approved. Seconded by Cartwright and motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />Weeds Mr. Robert Pagenkops, 1697 N. Hamline, reported that the <br />vacant property on the northwest corner of Hamline and <br />Larpenteur was badly infested with needs Anal that nothing <br />had been done about cutting them. Mr. Pagenkops was <br />asked to call the matter to the attention of Village Weed <br />Inspector Paul Coppini. <br />County Assessor <br />to make books <br />available for <br />review by council <br />The Clerk reported that as requested by the Council, he had <br />contacted the County Assessor regarding assessment books for the Village <br />being made available for review by the Council. After discussion, <br />it was agreed to ask County Assessor Powers if this could be done <br />on Friday evening, July 27, beginning at 7:00 P.M. <br />Engineering Letter from Johnson & Weinel, Associated Engineers, 7320 Upton <br />service Avenue South, Minneapolis, was read relative to municipal <br />engineering services offered by this firm. The letter was <br />ordered filed on motion by Utecht, seconded by Shavor. <br />Centralized police- Letter of July 9, 1956, from Gordon E. Olson, Village Manager, <br />radio service North St Paul, was read, inviting the Mayor, other members of <br /> the Council and the Police Chief to a meeting of suburban <br /> Ramsey County communities set for Monday evening, July 23, in <br /> North St Paul. The le tter stated that the purpose of the meeting <br /> is to enable the communities to get together on what is wanted <br /> in the way of centralized police service. The Mayor indicated <br /> he would attend. <br />Municipal Liquor Attorney Graham's letter of July 9 to Mayor Utecht, relative <br />store to statutes restricting the sale of liquor near the fairgrounds <br /> arxi University Farm Gampus, also statuAes which will have to be <br /> amended to permit the sale of liquor within the Village area. <br />Fire Engine #1 to Letter of July 6, 1956 from Fire Chief Grumke relative to <br />New Brighton for Asst. Chief V. J. Hermes and FMO Stanley Schultz accompanying <br />Natl Civil Defense Engine No. 1 to NeR Brigh ton., July 20, 1956, for the National <br />drill Defense drill, was read. After discussion, Cartwright moved <br /> that our Fire Department be authorized to take part in the <br /> National Civil Defense drill on July 20, and that Assistant <br /> Chief Hermes and Firemen Schultz be allowed drill time. Seconded <br /> by Utecht and motion carried unanimously. <br />Fire Dept. drills, Letter from Fire Chief Grumke relative to the Fire Department's <br />Idaho & Snelling difficulty in finding a location for drills other than at <br /> Idaho aril Snelling drive. After discussion, Trustee Cartwright <br /> was asked to inform the Chief that drill practice could be <br /> resumed at the Idaho and Snelling location. <br /> <br />
