X24 <br />Newell turns in Fire Chief Grumke's letter of October 10, 1956, was read <br />Vol. fireman relative to the controversy with Volunteer Hal Newell <br />badge on request at the October 9 Department drill about fire calls which <br />of Fire Chief. he claimed were not being put thru to his home whereas <br /> Fire Department records show calls were put thru to the <br /> Newell home but no ane answered the phone. On this basis <br /> the Chief asked Newell for an apology,.but this lead to <br /> further argument, resulting in Newell ~~el~-te turn <br /> in his badge which he did. In connection with discharging <br /> Newell, the Village attorney advised. this may be done bider <br /> the ordinar3ee~b~~a two-thirds vote of the recorded membership <br /> of the Volunteer Firemen. <br />Fireman Merkel The matter of Fireman Merkel's illness and having him examined <br />illness exam. by a doctor as ordered at the September 26, 1956 meeting, was <br /> discussed with Fire Chief Grumke. Because of '~ferkel's recent <br /> injury which the Fire Chief said would. keep Fireman Merkel <br /> out of work for about four weeks, it was agreed to defer <br /> taking action on the examination matter until Merkel returns <br /> to work. <br />Fire Engineering, <br />year's subscription On recommendation of the Fire Chief, Stewart moved that <br /> we authorize payment of X3.50 for one year's subscription <br /> to Fire Engineering for our Fire Department, the subscription <br /> to.start November 1956. Seconded. by Cartwright and so ordered. <br />Extra time relieving The matter of payment for extra time put in by Firemen Slama <br />Fireman Merkel to be and Schultz, account Firemen Merkel on sick leave, was dis- <br />paid at rate of cussed. Utecht moved that said time be paid for at the rate <br />X300 per month. of $300.00 per month. Seconded by Shavor and motion carried <br /> unanimously. <br />~~4aple Knoll traffic Letter of September 25,.1956, from A.D. Crampton, Principal <br />suEVey report. Assistant to the County Engineer, was read as to results of <br /> the traffic survey made in the Maple Ifnoll area, indicating <br /> that there are no violations as to excessive speed and that <br /> the topography does not encourage or permit speed. However, <br /> Mr. Crampton said it may be advisable to install necessary <br /> signs to control traffic at the following locations: <br />Fry Street - northbound, install advance warning' sign reading, <br />"Winding Road" with an advisory speed sign of 15 M,P.H. <br />St Mary's St. - Install "Stop" sign to stop northbound traffic <br />at Maple Knoll Drive. <br />Garden Ave. - Install "No Left Turn" sign in center of the <br />intersection on the west side immediately west of Snelling <br />Ave., prohibiting left turning for west bound traffic on <br />Garden Avenue." <br />"Right Turn Only" Don Arndt, Public Safety Supervisor, appeared before the <br />signs, Larpenteur & council and urged now that our new shopping center is <br />Snelling finished that there is greater need for installing 'No <br />Right Turn' signs on Larpenteur coming off the four services <br />Lanes on Snelling as recommended by the County Traffic Engineer. <br />After discussion, Stewart moved that a letter be written to <br />
