~~
r:
Consent 7
2/12/03
Addendum
ITEM: Approval of the 2002 Pay Equity Report
SUBMITTED BY: Heather Worthington
EXPLANATION:
Summary: The State of Minnesota's Department of Employee Relations (DOER)
requires local units of government to comply with the Pay Equity Act by submitting a
report every three years. The Pay Equity Act requires cities to list each part-time or full-
time employee's class title, the number of employees by gender in each class, and the
work value points of each class. Minimum and maximum salaries are also reported, with
the number of years that employee class takes to reach the highest "step" if a step plan is
utilized (Falcon Heights does utilize a step plan).
Pay Equity is a method of eliminating discrimination against women who are paid less
than men for jobs requiring comparable levels of expertise. This goes beyond the familiar
idea of "equal pay for equal work" where men and women with the same jobs must be
paid equally.
The report was filed with the State on January 31, 2002. The DOER will review the
reports received for 2002 over the next year, and will then report back to the city
regarding compliance.
ATTACHMENT:
2002 Pay Equity Report
ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of the 2002 Pay Equity Report as submitted
•
