TRANSPORTATION SERVICES <br /> Transportation services are available to those 60 years and over who have no means of <br /> transportation. A number of riders have physical limitations, but those who don't drive and /or <br /> have no access to public transportation are eligible for service. <br /> The Roseville Area Senior Program is a member of the Ramsey County Coordinated <br /> Transportation Project which is funded through the Metropolitan Council and administered <br /> through the American Red Cross. The transportation services are coordinated by the Community <br /> Services Coordinator which includes recruiting, training and evaluating volunteer drivers, <br /> coordinating maintenance of van with driver, and coordinating with Red Cross. <br /> The transportation service consists of two components: <br /> Volunteer Transportation: Sixteen volunteers who utilize their own vehicles are available to <br /> provide transportation primarily for medical appointments throughout most of the metropolitan <br /> area. Volunteers are provided mileage reimbursement and older adults utilizing this service <br /> are requested to make a donation to the program according to their ability to pay. <br /> Van "Senior Shuttle Transportation: The lift- equipped, 10 -16 passenger van is operated <br /> Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to provide grocery shopping, rides to and <br /> from the Senior Center, local therapy rides (i.e. swimming at Presbyterian Homes) and other <br /> requests as schedule permits. This service is available to all residents in the school district and <br /> the entire city of Roseville. A suggested donation of 75 cents per one -way trip is requested. No <br /> service is denied because of inability to pay. The van is operated by a paid driver who is <br /> employed by Good Neighbor Foundation. Good Neighbor funds van operations. A special <br /> certificate through the Minnesota Department of Transportation is held for the van which <br /> requires specific standards and rules of compliance. The program was awarded a new 10 -16 <br /> passenger, lift- equipped bus through the Urban Mass Transportaton Administration Section <br /> 16(b)(2) Grant Program in June 1991. The North Suburban Kiwanis also provided the <br /> additional matching funds for the new "Senior Shuttle <br /> Last year 7,000 one -way trips, totaling over 16,000 miles driven, were provided to about <br /> 210 older adults. <br /> SENIOR DINING <br /> Senior Dining is a nutrition program available to all persons age 60 or older and their spouses <br /> regardless of residence. Ramsey Action Program (RAP) sponsors Senior Dining in cooperation <br /> with Roseville Area Schools' Food Service Department. Senior Dining is funded with state and <br /> federal funds and client contributions. <br /> Approximately 33,000 meals were served in 1991 to about 1,500 registered diners. The <br /> average daily attendance is 135. On special occasions a maximum of 225 meals are served. An <br /> average of 45 volunteers assist the site manager each month with registering new diners, <br /> reservations, check -ins, setting and cleaning tables, etc. <br /> The meal cost is $4.05 Diners are asked to contribute according to ability to pay. Suggested <br /> donation is $1.75. A sliding scale according to income is available. <br /> ID <br />
