City of Falcon Heights <br /> Curbside Recycling Proposals <br /> Summary of Hauler Services <br /> January 7, 1993 <br /> KNUTSON'S SERVICES <br /> Advantages: <br /> a) Cost: Knutson's had the second lowest rates for <br /> comparable service of the 5 bidders. <br /> ($32,929 for 2 or 3 collections per month). <br /> b) Number of Collections: Knutson's will col /ect products on the 1st, <br /> 3rd, and if necessary, 5th Fridays of the <br /> month. <br /> c) Revenue Sharing: Knutson's will rebate to the city 66% of <br /> material sales exceeding specified minimum <br /> prices. (was a 1/3 return in last contract; <br /> averaged $150 /month) <br /> d) Ease of Transition: Knutson's currently serves Falcon Heights, <br /> so development of new procedures and re- <br /> training of residents will not be necessary. <br /> Disadvantages: <br /> a) Products Collected: Knutson's will not collect office paper, but <br /> will collect household batteries. <br /> b) Loss Sharing: Knutson's will charge the City 66% of the <br /> cost of materials that are unsold or are <br /> sold for less than specified minimum prices. <br /> c) Number of Collections: Knutson's will not provide weekly <br /> collections for single family homes. <br /> References: <br /> Generally favorable. Contacted references indicated good customer <br /> service with few complaints, but expressed minor concerns about late <br /> paperwork. One reference noted that Knutson's had asked for a mid <br /> contract rate increase. <br /> A few examples of other cities served: <br /> White Bear Lake, Minnetonka Beach, Wayzata, Rosemount <br />
