4. If consent is not obtained the hospital shall <br /> establish that legally required consent cannot be <br /> obtained. <br /> 5. When the source individual is already known to be <br /> infected with HBV and /or HIV, testing for the <br /> source individuals known HBV or HIV status will <br /> not be repeated. <br /> 6. Results of the source individuals testing shall <br /> be made available to the exposed member. The <br /> member shall not disclose the identity and <br /> infectious status of the source individual to <br /> others. <br /> D. Collection and testing of the members blood for HBV <br /> and HIV status: <br /> 1. The exposed members blood shall be collected as <br /> soon as feasible and tested after consent. <br /> 2. If the employee consents to baseline blood <br /> collection, but does not give consent at the time <br /> for HIV testing, an officer shall have the health <br /> care professional preserve the sample for at least <br /> 90 days. If within 90 days of the exposure <br /> incident, the member elects to have the baseline <br /> sample tested, such testing shall be done as soon <br /> as feasible. <br /> 3. The Rescue Captain shall ensure that the <br /> health care professional responsible for the <br /> member's Hepatitis B Vaccination is provided a <br /> copy of the 29 CFR part 1910.1020. regulation. <br /> E. The Health Care Professional will ensure post <br /> exposure prophlaxis, when medically indicated, as <br /> recommended by the U.S. Public Health Services <br /> (USPHS) to include: <br /> 1. Counseling. <br /> 2. Evaluation of reported illness /exposure. <br /> 3. Treatment required. <br /> F. The Health Care professional will report the <br /> following to your employer: <br /> 1. That you have been informed of the result of the <br /> evaluation. <br /> 2. That they have discussed any resulting medical <br /> conditions with you. <br /> 3. Whether Hepatitis B vaccination is called for. <br /> 4. Whether you have received the first part of the <br /> vaccination. <br /> 10 <br />
