MINUTES
Solid Waste Commission Meeting
4 February 1993
The meeting was called to order by Laura Kuettel, acting chair, at 7:01pm.
COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT: Laura Kuettel, Nancy Misra, Susan Smith,
Shirley Chenoweth, staff representative, Sam Jacobs, council liaison and
Brian Standing, staff intern.
COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT: John Brynildson, Michael Haglund, John
Hustad, Terry Iverson, Marty McCleery, and Lyle Wray.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA /APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The commission members had a
planning session with E -Z Recycling. The rest of the agenda was held
over for approval /discussion /action at the March meeting.
E -Z Recycling, Inc. was represented by Chris Reinhardt, Chuck Human, and
Brian Koppy (Coordination Manager). Chris Reinhardt suggested city hall
use a 90 gallon container for office paper.
Office paper will include white and pastel bond, all
computer paper, white and pastel envelopes (without
plastic windows and self -stick labels), white and
pastel forms, yellow legal pad paper, adding machine
paper, telephone message slips, letterhead paper,
tablet and note pad paper, uncoated fax paper. Items
not accepted are carbon paper, newspaper, magazines and
catalogs, telephone books, plastic window envelopes,
file folders, blue print paper, coated fax paper, food
wrappers and containers, tissue paper, and rubber bands
(occasional paper clips and staples acceptable).
The city will complete a revised listing of acceptable recycled items to
be sent to all residents via the city newsletter. This listing will be
reviewed by E -Z prior to printing. A calendar of pickup dates will be
printed on the back. E -Z will provide a short bio as an introduction to
the residents. Delivery date is set for March 1, 1993.
E -Z accepts mixed glass (still in unbroken form) and labels no longer
need to be removed from cans. Cardboard that is not small and placed in
paper bags must be bundled with string and no larger than 3'x 3'. Now
that glass no longer needs to be separated; Shirley Chenoweth asked that
she be notified of any multi -units with extra containers the city needs
elsewhere. Chenoweth also reminded E -Z that the Community Center located
on Roselawn and Cleveland needs the pop container bins empty during warm
months. Locations were confirmed and sample contracts were made
available to Chenoweth. Reinhardt served on the Ramsey County Solid
Waste Advisory Board and confirmed that the city of Falcon Heights has
regularly lead or been one of the top recyclers in Ramsey County in terms
of the list of items recycled and the amounts per household.
OTHER INFORMATION: Kuettel and Chenoweth will be unable to attend the
March meeting.
Kuettel made a motion, seconded by Nancy Misra; the meeting ended at
8:31pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Laura Kuettel
