MINUTES <br /> Solid Waste Commission Meeting <br /> 7 January 1993 <br /> Terry Iverson 'called the meeting to order at'7:08 p.m. <br /> COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT: John Brynaldson, Mike Haglund, John <br /> Hustad, Laura Kuettel, Lyle Wray, Shirley Chenoweth,,staff <br /> representative, and Sam Jacobs council liaison. <br /> COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT: Marty McCleery, Nancy Misra and <br /> Susan Smith. <br /> SUSAN SMITH MEMO: Susan Smith did not attend this Commission <br /> meeting. This was due to a possible conflict of.interest with <br /> the Solid Waste Commission reviewing bids and recommending a <br /> recycler for 1993 -94 to the city council. Her firm does work <br /> for one of the bidders on the recycling contract for the city. <br /> REVIEW OF RECYCLING PROPOSALS: The Solid Waste Commission <br /> reviewed the specifications of the bids sent in by recyclers for <br /> 1993 -94. This was covered in the Recycling Proposal Summary. <br /> BFI, E -Z, Knutson, Supercycle and Waste Management were the <br /> companies submitting bids for the recycling contract. <br /> Representatives from Knutson, E -Z and Supercycle attended the <br /> Commission meeting. All bidderswere aware-that they could <br /> attend the commission meeting and provide input on this matter.- <br /> Each of the companies gave a presentation to•the <br /> commission. Following is a brief 'description of 'each -companies' <br /> presentation: <br /> Knutson 'foresees no 'changes in it's bid to‘ city when <br /> 'new products for recycling come on line. Knutson's revenue <br /> sharing with the city depends onsthe markets -for recycled <br /> materials. They don't,' however, see in any major problems <br /> that would affect the market and the revenue sharing With <br /> Falcon Heights. They also felt'that they had done a good <br /> job in servicing the city in the current contract which <br /> they hold. <br /> E -Z They have been around for about five years and are <br /> close to Falcon Heights. According to their representative,' <br /> they have an excellent track record and currently serve such <br /> cities as Spring Lake Park, Orono and parts of St. Paul such <br /> as Frogtown. It does pick up phone books. It was <br /> incorrectly stated on the Recycling Proposal Summary as E -Z <br /> not picking them up. In addition, it would have a <br /> guaranteed revenue sharing with the city and the cost per <br /> household was the lowest of the various bids submitted to <br />
