The city is 2.28 square miles and is located directly south of the
City of Roseville, north of the City of St. Paul, west of the Cities
of St. Paul and Roseville and east of the City of Lauderdale
(attachment 1).
2. There are 1,461 acres in the city of which 682 acres belong to
the University of Minnesota and 288 acres belong to the
Minnesota State Fair.
3. Of the land use in the city that is outside the University of
Minnesota and the Minnesota State Fair, housing comprises 62%
and commercial uses comprise 7 (attachment 2). Institutional
and park uses make up the remainder of this land area. There are
approximately 1,145 single family homes and 567 apartment and
condominium units outside of the university's campus housing.
B. Demographic and business information
1. There are approximately 3,832 residents in Falcon Heights that
are not living on the university campus and are served by the
city's police service. About 1,550 residents live on the university
campus. These residents rely on the University of Minnesota
police service.
2. There are approximately sixty businesses in the city. These are
primarily retail and service oriented and are located along
Larpenteur Avenue, Snelling Avenue and Hamline Avenue.
C. Unique institutional relationships
1. Although the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota State
Fair are within the city's geographic boundaries, the city's police
service does not serve these areas.
