Meeting Date: 12/7/94 <br /> Agenda Item: P 2 <br /> CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS <br /> REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br /> ITEM DESCRIPTION: Report on planning for Falcon Heights Elementary School site <br /> SUBMITTED BY: Carol Kriegler, Parks and Recreation Director <br /> REVIEWED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator <br /> EXPLANATION /SUMMARY: Planning is underway for possible improvements to the <br /> Falcon Heights school site. A committee has been established to conduct further <br /> needs assessment and explore possible improvement options. Members of the <br /> committee include Ellen Blank, F.H. school principal; John Saure, P.E. teacher; Mary <br /> Teborg, 6th grade teacher; Steve Schugel, Alan Weinand and Scott Tapio. <br /> On November 23rd Carol Kriegler and intern Mike Shier conducted group discussions <br /> in each of the 4th, 5th and 6th grade classrooms. The purpose of these discussions <br /> was to gain this user group's perspective regarding the site's current facilities and <br /> conditions as well as their ideas for possible improvement. This user group was <br /> targeted for this exercise because of the committee's belief that the site offers the <br /> fewest recreational opportunities for this age. <br /> Information from these discussions as well as results from the written survey <br /> conducted in the Falcon Heights school area in the spring of '93 will be reviewed by <br /> the committee. It is hoped that the committee will have an improvement plan <br /> available for the park and recreation commission and city council's review and <br /> consideration in late winter so that improvements might be scheduled for spring. <br /> Carol Kriegler will review the committee's work to date and her discussions with the <br /> school officials and answer any questions. <br /> ACTION REQUESTED: Staff report on the elementary school site. <br />
