immElosow
RESIDENTS IN NORTHOME AREA
DECEMBER 13, 1994
PAGE THREE
2. What pavement section were the adjacent streets designed to, and when will they
require recomstruction?
Terry Maurer explained that he did not work for the City when the streets were
constructed, but his guess is either a 7 or 9 -ton design. He does not see complete
reconstruction in the foreseeable future (next 5 -7 years).
Mr. Maurer also stated that through the specification, construction traffic could be
given a specific route to minimize the impact on adjacent streets. This will be
considered when the specification is completed.
3. Why was a 9-ton pavement design chosen, and what is the pavement life?
A 9 -ton design was chosen based on the type of traffic that uses the alley, which
includes garbage trucks. The design life is 20 years; however, with proper
maintenance and surface rehabilitation, such as seal coating and eventually an
overlay, the alley can be expected to last 30-40 years before requiring
reconstruction.
4. What happens if damage to my property occurs during construction?
If damage to your property occurs, as a result of the construction activities, the
contractor will be required to repair any damage, or replace the item that was
damaged.
5. How will driveways be restored?
Bituminous driveways in good condition will a t w cut a fe feet past the edge of
the new pavement in order to maintain the f
driveways will have a short bituminous lip feathered into the gravel. If a concrete
driveway requires removal, it will be saw cut or broke -off at the nearest joint.
Bituminous driveways in poor condition will have the pavement removed in as
straight a line as possible. A narrow overlay will be feathered into the driveway
pavement beyond the match point to help prevent deterioration of the driveway.
6. If I wish to replace my driveway, when should I have the work performed?
Driveway repair work should be delayed until the project is constructed. The
resident can contact the contractor on his own to see if they would be interested in
doing the additional work, or get a quote from a local contractor after the alley
work is completed.
