MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 26, 2005
HEARING - Section 903.110.C.4.a.1 its Zoning Code relative to temporary signs for
TEMPORARY multi-tenant properties. The Planning Commission has recommended
SIGNS approval of the ordinance amendment.
'fhe City Planner indicated that the ordinance amendment is housel<eepiug
in nature clarifying that individual tenants of multi-tenauC properties are
limited to three temporary sign permits per year with a total of 60 days of
temporary signage. The Planner indicated that the Code Enforcement
Off ter felt that the wording in the ordinance left some room for confusion
about the 60 day total It was also pointed out that the Ordinance already
limits single-tenant business properties to three temporary sign permits per
year with a total of 60 days of temporary signage. Therefore, temporary
signage restrictions are consistent for each business in the City, whether
the business occupies its own building or is a tenant in a multi-tenant
building.
There was no one from the general public present wishing to comment on
this matter.
Upon motion by Montour, seconded by Allan, the public hearing was
closed.
LaValle asked if the proposed ordinance amendment was malting the sign
ordinance more restrictive. The Planner replied that the proposed
amendment is clarifying the intent that was discussed at the time the
temporary sign ordinance was modified in 2003.
ICeis asked if the three temporary sign permits could be issued for varying
numbers of days provided that the total number of days did not exceed 60.
The City Administrator replied that that was correct. The City
Administrator pointed out the Council discussion in 2003 when the sign
ordinance was amended, noting that it was clear that businesses in multi-
tenant properties were to be allowed three temporary sign permits each
year with a total number of days of 60. The Administrator noted that this
makes temporary sign permit allowances fair and consistent for all
businesses in the City.
Mr. Montour introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
ORDINANCE N0.588 - AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER
903.110 OF THE LITT],E CANADA C7TI' CODE KNOIENAS TFIE
ZONING ORDINANCE, REI ATIVE TO THE RFGi17.ATlON OF
TEMPORAR I' SIGNS
