M] N lJ'LC;S
CITP CO1JN(:IL
1VIARCH 23, 2005
Erin Mathern, MendotaLlomes, presented the revised monument sign for
Market Square Town Offices noting the more horizontal orientation of the
sign. She reviewed the materials Co be used for this sign pointing out that
the brick elements at either end would match the building. Mathern
indicated that the signage will have a dark background with white lettering
as recommended under the City's Architectural Guidelines. With regard
to placement, Mathern described the location of the sign to the area
between the driveway access points. She noted the discussion at the
February 23id meeting about the potential need to relocate the street light.
Given the expense of doing, the size of the sign, and the distance between
the street light and sign, Mathern felt the location in the area behind the
street light was adequate.
Allan asked about the materials that would be used for the cabs on the
signage pillars. Mathern replied that the material would be stone or
STUCCO.
Montour and LaValle felt that the revised signage proposal was a good
one.
Tim Walstrom, State ILLarm Insurance, reported that prior to purchasing his
town office unit, he discussed signage with the City Planner and was of
the understanding that it would be possible to move his existing signage at
the Market Place Shopping Center to the outside of the town offce
building. Walstrom indicated that he understands the Council desire not to
have additional signage on the outside of the town office building.
V>valstrom pointed omit that he made some business decisions to purchase
his town office unit because of its exposure to the street and based on
information he received about signage. Walstrom stated that he would
like some exposure for his business to Market Place Drive.
Blesener noted that he has looked at other town offices complexes in the
City and pointed out that he has observed other businesses using window
signage. LaValle indicated that he has made this same observation.
t3lesener stated that it was his understanding that the Code allows for
window signage up to 20% of the total window area. I3lesener suggested
that Walstrom work with the City Administrator to determine the
maximum amount of window signage he would be allowed.
There was no one else present from the general public wishing to
comment on this matter.
Upon motion by Montour, seconded by Keis, the public hearing was
closed.
