MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 13, 2005
The Administrator indicated that other factors to consider is that sanitary
sewer is not readily available to the site and reviewed the options for
servicing this property as outlined in the City Engineers report dated July
13, 2005. The Administrator also noted that the Engineer suggests that
water main can be extended into the property via an existing water main
stub on Soo Lane.
The City Administrator felt the MAC Property site was the best site for the
Public Works garage noting the City's County Road B site location is
problematic and the soils in Ryan Industrial Park are poor.
LaValle felt that the property was too expensive and that City staff should
continue its search for a site. Montour asked if there are less expensive
sites available. Blesener noted that the City has been looking for a site for
the past 5 or 6 years, and indicated that he would like to move forward on
the issue.
The City Administrator pointed out that land prices have increased
dramatically in the last few years, noting that the City's County Road B
property has also risen in value since the City acquired it.
LaValle asked if the City needed three acres for the Public Works garage.
The Administrator indicated that three acres may be more than what is
needed. It was noted that whatever the County Road B site is sold for will
offset the cost of a new Public Works garage site.
It was the consensus of the Council that the City Administrator should
contact MAC properties to determine if they would be willing to sell their
Woodlyn site. The City Administrator thought it would be unlikely that
they would sell on a voluntary basis. If not, the next step would be to
make an offer of just compensation.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2005-7-I55 -AUTHORIZING THE CITY
ADMINISTRATOR TO CONTACT MAC PROPERTIES TO
DETERMINE IF THEY ARE INTERESTED IN SELLING THEIR
WOODLYNAVENUE SITE TO THE CITY UNDER A VOLUNTARY
SALE FOR A PUBLIC WORKS GARAGE SITE
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Allan.
Ayes (5).
Nays (0).
