MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 24, 2005
RESOLUTION NO. 2005-8-791-APPROVING THE CONSENT
AGENDA WHICH CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING:
*APPROVAL OF TEMPORARY LIQUOR LICENSE AND EXEMPT
GAMBLING PERMIT FOR ST. JOHN'S CHURCH FALL
FESTIVAL;
*APPROVAL OF ON-SALE WINE AND ON-SALE 3.2
INTOXICATING MALT LIQUOR LICENSE FOR THE CORNER
COFFEE HOUSE FOR LICENSE PERIOD THROUGH JUNE 30,
2006;
*APPROVAL OF PAY REQUEST FOR TWIN CITY
HYDROSEEDING
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Montour.
Ayes (5).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
JACKSON The City Planner reported that the Laborer's District Council is purchasing
STREET the former Ruff Cuts building at 81 Little Canada Road. As a resulC of the
DRIVEWAY change in use of this building, now utilizing the lower level for office/
ACCESS FOR meeting space, the Council is proposing the addition of a handicapped
LABORER'S parking space at the lower level and a curb cut from Jackson Street to
DISTRICT access this space. Without the addition of this handicapped space, it
COUNCIL would likely be necessary that an elevator would have to be installed in
BUILDING the building.
Jessica Looman, Laborer's District Council, indicated that they are
looking forward to moving into their new location. The Council serves 7
affiliated local unions having a membership of approximately 10,000.
Looman reported that there will be 8 staff members at this location
conducting regular office hours. Once per month, there are meetings of
delegates consisting of 24 additional people. These delegate meetings are
also held during regular office hours. The delegate meetings will be held
in the lower level of the building.
Allan asked about the walkway from the front of the building to the back
as shown on the plan. Looman reported that this walkway is actually
steps; therefore, providing additional handicapped parking at the upper
level and using these steps would not work. Also given the limited
distance in which to work, it is not feasible to replace the steps with a
ramp.
]0
