MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 14, 2005
Bourassa indicated that the Planning Commission has expressed the desire
to expand this redevelopment project to Che property further south. Mr.
Matthews has approached these properly owners and will report on his
discussions with them. Bourassa noted ChaC the concept plan provides the
ability to connect this project to a future project to the south.
Blesener asked if parking would be lost as the result of a connection to the
south. Bourassa estimated that three to four parking spaces would be
eliminated. Allan noted that the concept plan only exceeds the City's
parking requirements by three spaces.
Blesener noted the discussion at the Planning Commission about the
impact that Mr. Matthews business has on parking in the Tacheny project.
John Matthews reported ChaC he owns two units in the Tacheny projecC.
He agreed that his business has grown and has had a significant impact on
available parking. However, he recently purchased a building at Highway
120 and 694, and will be moving approximately 50 of his agents to that
location. He currently has 80 to 100 agents working for him. Relocating
50 agents will relieve the parking problems in the Tacheny Town Office
project.
Blesener asked what the feeling is of the Tacheny Owners Association
relative to the connection to this proposed project. Matthews reported thaC
the owners in the south units are agreeable to the connection as long as
they do not lose their parking spaces in front of their building. There is an
owner on the north end that is opposed to the connection. Matthews
reported that most of the owners prefer to see another access point for the
Tacheny projecC.
With regard to parking at the Tacheny project, it was noted that each unit
is allocated 8 parking spaces. Keis questioned Matthews' impacC on
parking even with the relocation of 50 agents. Matthews noted thaC he
owns two units. He also indicated ChaC agents are not frequently in the
office other than for a weekly meeting. Weekly meetings will be held at
the new location at 120/694.
LaValle asked if Matthews would move back to this new development.
Matthews reported that he had no plans to occupy any of these proposed
units.
Matthews reported that he discussed redevelopment with the owners of the
property to the south, the Wingspan building and the McDonald Battery
building. Each of these owners was interested in giving up a small portion
of their properties to expand the town office redevelopment project.
However, they were not interested in a total redevelopment.
2
