MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 11, 2008
FIRE The City Administrator reported that it is with mixed emotions that he
MARSHAL announces Duane Williams intent to retire as the City's Fire Marshal.
RETIREMENT The Administrator reported that until Williams started as Fire Marshal, the
City had virtually no pro-active fire inspection program. Williams has
done a great job for the City over his tenure that began in 1995. The
Administrator stated that the City owes Williams a great debt of gratitude.
He noted that Williams is very well respected by the business community
in the City. The Administrator wished Duane Williams and his family a
happy and enjoyable retirement.
FIRE As was discussed at a recent workshop with the Fire Department, Blesener
DEPARTMENT suggested that a committee representing the Fire Department and the City
COMMITTEE Council be formed to review some of the issues raised at that workshop.
These include ambulance service within the City, the Fire Department's
response to certain types of calls generated by Allina, capital
improvements, and the potential acquisition of adjacent property to the
Fire Station.
By consensus of the Council, Blesener and Allan were appointed as the
Council representatives to the committee.
GOOSE The City Administrator reported that it appears that the goose population
CONTROL in the City is on the increase, and he noted that the City has received a
number of calls relative to this problem. The Administrator pointed out
that Dr. Cooper has retired; however, there is a new person who has taken
over for him in administering the goose control program. The
Administrator asked whether the Council was in support of goose removal
in key areas of the City for 2008 as has been done in the past.
Mr. Montour introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTIONNO.2008-6-151-AUTHORIZING THE CITY
ADMINISTRATOR TO CONTRACT FOR GOOSE CONTROL
SERVICES FOR 2008 SIMILAR TO PAST PROGRAMS
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Blesener.
Ayes (5).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
