$5,000 would be required for a more detailed review. At the original estimate staff felt
the option may be worth pursuing; however, at the higher cost and the likelihood that
costs could increase this option may not be viable,
Poles on both sides
The final option would be to shift poles to allow construction of the new street
improvements, keeping the mainline power on the east side of the road and the service
poles on the west side. This would be the least expensive option and visually would
remain about the same to what exists today, The poles on the west side of the road
would be moved farther west to maintain a 2 foot separation from the new curb and the
poles on the east would likely move west and end up in the boulevard between the new
curb and sidewalk.
Summary
The purpose of this memo was to summarize the options available for the dealing with
the power poles along Centerville Road and the associated issues. At this time Xcel is
asking the City which design we would like them to move forward with. Based on the
tree impacts of moving the mainline power to the west side of the road and the costs of
burying the powerlines, staff is inclined to shift poles while maintaining the general layout
that exists. We would ask the Council to provide input on the options and if additional
review of the underground option is desired
Please contact me at 763-780-0450 ext. 3 with any questions or concerns regarding the
report.
10062 Flanders Court NE — Blalne, MN 55449 — Ph: (763) 780-0450 Fax (763) 780-0452
Memo -082115 -CC (Powerline Reolcatlon-Burying).doc
