MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 10, 2004
In addition, staff cannot recommend in favor of the Family Academy
proposal. Anderson noted that there are no representatives of Family
Academy present this evening, therefore, he would assume that nothing
has changed for them in terms of where they are with their proposal.
Anderson felt the discussion should move on, and Mr. Frattalone should
put his property on the market at this point. Anderson indicated that he
was reluctant to sell the County Road B property until the City has
identified another property for a new Public Works garage. Anderson
agreed that County Road B is not the best location for the Public Works
garage, but felt another site should be identified before it is sold.
Fahey stated that if the City intends to sell the County Road B property,
the property should be appraised. Fahey noted that staff has a couple of
other potential Public Works sites in mind, and suggested staffbe
authorized to begin discussions with those property owners. Fahey
indicated that an appraisal will determine the value of the County Road B
property which is a piece of information that will be needed as part of the
process.
Blesener informed the Council of his position relative to the Public Works
garage issue and the Family Academy proposal. Blesener noted that to
expand the existing Public Works garage would require a variance, and he
felt there was ^o justification for such a variance. With regard to the
Family Academy proposal, Blesener stated it was his opinion that a school
did not fit within an industrial park. Blesener stated his preference was
that the City find a site that is appropriate for a Public Works garage. He
did not believe the County Road B property was a good location for a
Public Works garage given the property is on the southern edge of Little
Canada and is not a central location within the City.
Fahey stated that he supported having the County Road B property
appraised, but noted that Little Canada is only four square miles, therefore,
he did not share Council Member Blesener's access concerns.
Anderson felt that another location more central in the City would make
better sense. However, he felt the City should retain the County Road B
property until another site has been identified.
Mr. Fahey inh'oduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RF_SOL UTIONNO. 2004-3-45 -AUTHORIZING THE CITY
ADMINISTRATOR TO OBTAIN ANAPPRAlb`AI_ OF THE COUNTY
ROAD 73 PROPERTY AS WELL AS ENTER ZNTO DISCUSSIONS
10
