MINUTES
CITY CO~ONCIL
MAY ZG, 2004
that outdoor storage of vehicles would have on this property and what the
City is trying to do in the area.
Fahey suggested that Mr. Reeves meet with the City Planner and City staff
to determine if what is or is not allowed by the ordinance. Fahey indicated
that he was not supportive of the granting of a variance or text amendment
to accommodate the use.
Blesener pointed out that the ordinance would allow for the expansion of
the current Maaco building by 25% given its non-conforming status.
Blesener stated that his feeling that a text amendment to allow a larger
expansion would be difficult to get approved. Blesener noted that many of
the City's major code enforcement problems are related to outdoor storage
and are auto-oriented in nature. Blesener also stated that he would like to
see a better use of the former Knox building than an auto-related business.
Anderson stated that he appreciated Mr. Reeves approach in trying to
resolve his business issues. However, he agreed that there was a higher
and better use for the former Knox building than the one proposed by
Reeves. Anderson also suggested Mr. Reeves meet with the City Planner
to determine his options under the current code.
Fahey stated that he would like to retain the Maaco business in the City
and Maaco expand their business. He noted, however, that the business
belongs in the Light-Industrial Zoning District.
CLANDESTINE The City Administrator presented the Council with an ordinance that was
DRUG recently adopted by the City of Vadnais Heights relative to clandestine
STTES drug sites and the ability to declare these sites as public nuisances. The
Council agreed that City staff should research this issue and present the
Council with a proposed ordinance.
Anderson suggested that any ordinance brought forth should limit the
definition of manufacturer to drug labs and limit the approach the City
takes to truly address public safety issues.
REVOKING Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
MSA STATUS
ON RESOLUTION NO. 2004-5-,114 -REVOKING THE MSA
CENTERVILLE DESIGNATION FOR CENT ERVI] LE ROAD FROM EI,I ROAD
ROAD TO LA730RE ROAD Ab' RECOMMENDED 13Y CITY STAFF
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Fahey, LaValle, Montour, Anderson, Blesener.
Nays (0).
