MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 23, 2003
Jesse Anesi, Aldi Foods, appeared before the Council and reported that
they have modified their plans to comply with the recommendations of the
City Engineer and the City Planner. The City Planner indicated that it
appears that the modified plans do comply, but he would have to make a
detailed review to confirm this.
Ray Thul, President of Cobblestone Village Homeowners Association,
indicated that they wanted to ensure that there was no negative impact to
their property as relates to ponding and drainage. Jesse Anesi explained
the drainage plan noting that a storm water holding pond will be
constructed in the southeast area of the property. Run-off from the
parking lot and the roof will flow into this pond and will then discharge
into the existing pond on the school property. The City Planner noted the
recommendations of the City Engineer with regdi•d to drainage and run-off
that the developer will have to comply with. Anesi stated that Aldi Foods
agree to comply with all the recommendations of the City Planner and the
City Engineer.
Lois Schwartz, Cobblestone Village, asked if the existing woods would be
cut down. Anesi reported that there are no sizeable trees on the property;
the wooded area refen~ed to is on the School District property.
Fahey asked about specifics related to the operation of Aldi Foods. Anesi
reported that they have 695 stores in 23 states in the United States and
3,000 stores in Europe. Products are pre-packaged, thus reducing labor
costs. While no fresh meat is sold, fiozen meat is, and some fresh
vegetables are offered. About 95% of the brands sold are house brands
with very few name brands offered.
Doris Schwartz, Cobblestone Village, asked the hours of operation. Anesi
replied that they are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays through
Saturdays and are closed on Sundays.
There was no one else from the general public present wishing to
comment on this matter.
Upon motion by LaValle, seconded by Blesene~; the public hearing was
closed.
Montour asked about the Bally's sign noting that it was his recollection
that as soon as this property developed, Che Bally's sign would have to be
removed. Anesi indicated that the plan calls for the Bally's sign to be
relocated further south on the property at a new driveway entrance being
provided for Bally's between the Aldi development and the Arby's site.
