MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 9, 2003
Commission. Germanson replied that while it is not shown on this plan,
the parking will be pulled back five feet closer to the building.
Germanson reported that the number of parking spaced on Lot 2 have been
increased from 96 to 132. He also indicated that 70 parking spaces have
been added to Lot 3 for a total of 96. These 70 additional spaces on Lot 3
will be shared with Council 82.
LaValle asked if all parking areas would be blacktopped and striped
Germanson reported that the parking that is proposed in the location of the
future 17,920 square foot building would not be blacktopped. Germanson
also pointed out that the outdoor storage area consisting of 65,400 square
feet would not be blacktopped. Germanson indicated that they have
always talked about the need for 2 to 3 acres of outdoor storage on this
site, and the plan presented this evening shows approximately 2 acres of
outdoor storage.
Fahey asked if the outdoor storage area would be used for the Drywall
Supply business. Johnson indicated that that is something that he would
like to discuss with the Council. Fahey indicated that he is not interested
in another business utilizing outdoor storage on this site. Fahey pointed
out that this was not what was talked about or represented for this site.
Fahey expressed concern that Mr. Johnson is now presenting a new plan
and a new proposal from what was presented to the Planning Commission.
Germanson continued his review of the site plan and noted that the new
plan addressed the concerns and recommendations of both the City
Planner and the City Engineer. Germanson noted that the large canopy
would remain on the site and would be landscaped. This canopy will
provide screening for the Council 82 building and the Drywall Supply
operation. German also pointed out that an easement is being provided to
allow Council 82 to utilize parking on the Drywall Supply site.
Anderson asked if the truck access routes through the site would be paved.
Germanson reported that the routes at the front of the property would be
paved, but those in the back would not. Johnson felt that truck traffic flow
would primarily circle around the former Knox building.
Blesener asked if the canopy behind the Council 82 site would be used for
outdoor storage. Johnson replied that it would. LaValle asked about the
other canopies on the site. Johnson reported that two have been removed.
The third would be removed when the new building is constructed.
Johnson also pointed out that there is a building immediately behind the
former Knox building that will be town down immediately.
