MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
October 3, 2002
Sackett Glaser stated that it would be nice to receive the extra tax dollars from a home. She
also commented that she does not consider the piece of land as a part of Gervais Mill Park.
Smith encouraged the Commissioners to keep an open mind on her proposal. She stated that
she would hate to see the City miss an opportunity such as this. She also cautioned that a
future City Council could approve the construction of an unsitely building on the property.
Broten stated that he does not think that the property will remain open space for long. He
favored the idea of splitting the property to leave a buffer zone for open space and snow
storage.
The Director commented that he felt that a home in that location created potential conflicts
with future owners being that Norm's Tire is on one side and snow storage on the other.
Gray reconznzended that the City retain cotnp[ete ownership of the property ozz Noel Drive.
Motion seconded by Larson.
Motion denied 3 - 3. Broten, Sackett Glaser, azzd Schabacker voted agaizzst.
ICE CREAM The Director stated that he talked to the band after the event and they liked having the ice
SOCIAL cream social in conjunction with their concert.
The Commission all agreed that signage should be provided for A&W and for the Ice Cream
Social in general at the shelter. This issue will be revisited after the ls` of the year.
TRAILS The Director stated that he met with Sanders to discuss the completion of the trails in Little
Canada. They came up with a prioritized list. This list was distributed to the Commission
for discussion.
Schabacker asked if an updated color coded trail map was ever made. The Director said that
he did not think that was accomplished.
Sackett Glaser recommended moving #2a Centerville Road Trail down to #6b to combine it
with the other Centerville Road project. She stated that this project would probably be
contingent on when the County will reconstruct the roadway so she did not feel that it should
be ranked so high on the list.
The Director stated that this list will be presented to the City Council at the workshop on
October 9°i. He indicated that the workshop will begin at 6 p.m. and end by 7:30 p.m.
Sackett Glaser urged all Commissioners to attend if possible.
DIRECTOR'S The Director reported on the following:
REPORT
• The Friends of the Parks and Trails tree sale will beheld in 2003.
