MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />June 2, 2016 <br />PARKS AND <br />RECREATION <br />MISSION <br />STATEMENT <br /> <br /> Chair Miller explained the Mission Statement has been a coordinated <br />process to write a vision explaining what the Parks and Recreation <br />Commission’s job would be over the next several years. He continued the <br />City staff, Council, LCRA, and the Commission had been involved in the <br />visioning process and the final touches were being added before the <br />statement would be sent to the Council and advertised on the City website. <br /> <br /> Chair Miller provided the group with a final Parks and Recreation <br />Department Mission Statement which reads “Our mission is to promote <br />community engagement, wellness and pride by providing exceptional <br />public recreation services and facilities.” <br /> <br /> Chair Miller also read the goals which are as follows: <br /> <br /> Excellent Customer Service <br /> Making the customer feel special <br /> Going the Extra Mile <br /> Collaborating with others to deliver a great experience <br /> Promoting a Sense of Community Pride <br /> “We are Little Canada” <br /> Well Maintained and Safe Parks and Facilities <br /> Well Maintained: clean, timely service, functional equipment, <br />good ice <br /> Safe: Trails are plowed and maintained, open line of sight, <br />proactive/responsive to issues <br /> Programming for all ages and abilities <br /> Inclusive, “team” environment <br /> Activities, trips, educational opportunities to enhance Quality of <br />Life <br /> Partnering to ensure broad opportunities <br /> <br /> Chair Miller explained the Commission’s mission statement is the same, <br />but includes roles and responsibilities which are as follows <br /> Roles <br /> Advise the City Council and Parks and Recreation Department <br /> To represent the residents of Little Canada and the users of our <br />public recreation services and facilities <br /> Responsibilities <br /> Prioritization of goals <br /> Vetting of Ideas <br /> Idea generation <br /> <br /> Chair Miller asked the Commission if they were comfortable with the <br />wording of the statements. Everyone agreed they were. Ray made a <br />motion to recommend the approval of the Parks and Recreation Mission <br />Statement to the Council. Sullivan seconded the motion. The motion was <br />unanimously approved. <br /> <br />
