June, 1999 <br /> <br />CITY OF LITTLE CANADA <br />POSITION DESCRIPTION <br /> <br /> <br />Position Title: Parks & Recreation Director <br /> <br />Department: Parks & Recreation <br /> <br />Accountable To: City Administrator <br />________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br /> <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION <br /> <br />To plan, organize, and administer a quality Parks and Recreation program which will provide <br />facilities and leisure time activities which meet the needs of the citizens of Little Canada in an <br />effective, economic, and timely manner. <br /> <br /> <br />MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br /> <br />1. Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates a wide variety of recreation, nature, and <br />education activities for all ages and for all citizens. <br /> <br />2. Within the guidelines of the City’s Comprehensive Plan for Parks and Recreation, <br />develops long-range plans of Parks and Recreation facilities to assure maximum <br />utilization of land, buildings, and money. Periodically reviews Comprehensive Park Plan <br />and suggests revisions to the Park Commission. <br /> <br />3. Coordinates programming activities and maintains cooperative relationships with adjunct <br />community groups and other agencies to enhance the City’s recreational programming <br />needs. <br /> <br />4. Hires, trains, supervises, disciplines, and directs employees and volunteers under his/her <br />control. Reviews and evaluates the performance of those departmental employees <br />directly responsible to him/her on a regular basis. <br /> <br />5. Supervises, develops, and maintains a program of public recreational information which <br />will keep them informed of available facilities and activities and fosters a good image of <br />the Department. <br /> <br />6. Jointly plans and coordinates the maintenance of Parks and Recreation facilities with the <br />Public Works Director to assure attractive, safe, and functional surroundings in an <br />efficient and cost-effective manner. May also involve the supervision of personnel to <br />address specialized needs. <br /> <br />7. Staff liaison to the Parks & Recreation Commission. Required to attend meetings, <br />prepare agenda in conjunction with the Commission Chair, and prepare staff reports as <br />necessary.
