MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />SEPTEMBER 14, 2016 <br />SOCIAL MEDIA The City Clerk stated that Staff and the Council have been working on a <br />POLICY social media policy before the City starts any social media pages. She <br />explained that the Council requested the policy be reviewed by the City <br />Attorney before adopting it. She stated that the City Attorney has reviewed <br />the policy and made suggestions, which Staff agreed with and the policy <br />has been updated to reflect these changes. She explained that the City <br />Attorney suggested removing the list of reasons why comments may be <br />removed from a social media page, and simply state that the City reserves <br />the right to remove any comments for any reason. She noted that the <br />Attorney also suggested not allowing comments on the City's Facebook <br />page, when one is created. <br />Torkelson stated that he is supportive of allowing comments on social <br />media. Fischer agrees and thinks it builds community to have the <br />comments. Mcgraw stated he would rather start with no comments, and <br />feels that since we are a city and not a business, the comments are not <br />necessary. Keis stated he is in the middle and understands both sides. <br />Montour stated he looks at Facebook as a communication tool, and feels <br />that people will not get as much value out of the page if they are not seeing <br />what others are saying. <br />Renee Schott, Roseville resident, stated she sees the rants on Facebook, but <br />also sees the positive things, which many times over takes the negative. <br />She stated that she would like to be able to use it as a communication tool. <br />Bryce Shearen, Roseville resident and City Employee, stated he thinks <br />comments should be allowed because they are an important part of building <br />community. He noted the City can get a lot of good feedback from <br />allowing comments. <br />Keis introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOL UTION 2016-9-149 - ADOPTING THE LITTLE CANADA <br />SOCIAL MEDIA POLICYAND DISCLAIMER AS PRESENTED IN <br />THE STAFFREPORT. <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by McGraw. <br />Aye (5). <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />McGraw introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION 2016-9-150 -APPROVE ALLOWING COMMENTS ON <br />LITTLE CANADA SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES. <br />
