MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 26, 2016
and proximity due to safety purposed of entering onto Edgerton Street. She
noted that the property is zoned R-1, Single Family Residential. The
Associate Planner explained that the Zoning Code allows a 10 foot by 15
foot driveway turnaround, but not in front of the principal structure and it
must be 20 feet from the street. She stated that the City Engineer reviewed
the site, and he indicated that the turnaround size could be reduced and still
be usable. She stated that staff supports the request for a driveway
turnaround on this property and understands that the only location possible
is in front of the principal structure. She explained that staff recommends
reducing the size to 19 feet wide by 15 feet deep. She noted that by
reducing the width of the turnaround, it would then be about 23 feet from
the street and not need a variance. The Associate Planner stated that the
Planning Commission has reviewed this request and unanimously
recommended approval of the reduced size driveway turnaround.
David VanHouse, attorney representing Darlene Herkenhoff, stated he
requests that the Council approve the driveway turnaround, and Ms.
Herkenhoff is in agreement with staff on their recommendations.
There was no one present from the general public wishing to comment on
this matter.
Upon motion by McGraw, seconded by Montour, the public hearing was
closed.
McGraw introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION 2016-10-175 - APPROVING A VARIANCE TO ALLO W
A 19 FOOT WIDE BY 15 FOOT DEEP DRIVEWAY TURNAROUND,
LOCATED IN FRONT OF THE PRINCIPAL SIR UCTURE AND AT
LEAST 20 FEET FROM THE STREET EDGE AT 2954 EDGERTON
STREET.
Montour noted that the variance is being approved because of the unique
condition with the shared driveway, and inability to create a turnaround
away from the principal structure, and the size is needed for enough
maneuverability to exit the single car garage and turn around to safely exit
on to Edgerton Street as documented by the City Engineer.
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Montour.
Aye (5).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
