<br />disclosed. If the tonnages are estimates, the method of estimation must also be disclosed and <br />Contractor will do everything possible to ensure the accuracy of estimates. <br /> <br />g. Conveyance of Recyclables. The Contractor shall be responsible for the safe, legal, and <br />environmentally sound conveyance of all recyclables collected under this Contract. The <br />Contractor shall convey the recyclables to a market that assures these materials will not be <br />landfilled. The Contractor shall not mix other types of refuse or inorganic materials with <br />the recyclables or take any action so as to make the recyclable material unacceptable to <br />the operators of the recycling center. <br /> <br />h. Material Preparation & Separation Requirements. The Contractor is responsible for <br />immediately informing residential dwelling units of how to properly prepare recyclables <br />for collection. If the Contractor fails to pick up recyclables at a residential dwelling unit <br />because it was improperly prepared, it is the Contractor’s responsibility to immediately <br />inform in writing the residential dwelling unit on how to properly prepare the recyclables so <br />that they will be acceptable for pick up. The Contractor shall also inform the City of said <br />notice when the residence has received multiple notices. Any change in material <br />preparation and separation requirements must be approved by the City prior to <br />implementing such change and the Contractor shall bear full responsibility for notifying <br />residents of changes. <br /> <br />i. Participation Study. The Contractor is responsible for once annually between September <br />1st and October 31st to inform the City of households not participating in recycling. This <br />information will be used to target households for additional education on recycling <br />initiatives. <br /> <br />j. Education. It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to assist in the education of <br />residents on what is recyclable and how to properly prepare for proper disposal. Contractor <br />will work with City staff on a frequency as determined by the City to prepare written <br />materials for residents. All educational materials for customers under the contract must be <br />approved by the City prior to mailing. <br /> <br />k. Notification. If any resident of the City places any items out for pickup and the item is not <br />taken by the Contractor, the Contractor shall provide immediate written notification to the <br />resident and the City of reason(s) for refusal to pick up the item. Notification must be left <br />on the item(s) in question. Notifications left for a resident must be submitted to the City <br />by noon on the following day after collection was refused. <br /> <br />4. Bulky Item Pickup. Each residence is allowed to dispose of up to three “bulky items” per year as <br />defined by this contract. The Contractor shall collect, transport, dispose of, and/or process these <br />items without additional fees or charges to the resident as specified below: <br /> <br />a. Clarification of Count. In most cases, the counting of a bulky item will be self-evident; i.e. <br />a refrigerator will count as one item, a couch will count as one item, and a sink will <br />count as one item. A sectional sofa consisting of three or more pieces will count as two <br />items. However, there are instances when a set of items shall be counted as only one item <br />such as (2) rims with/without tires or two individual tires, and a computer and related <br />periphery with the exception of a cathode ray tube (CRT) which is prohibited. <br /> <br />b. Frequency of Collection. Contractor shall provide service to residents as scheduled by City. <br />Collections shall take place on the same day of the week as the resident’s refuse pickup,
