• We could consider extending the time for absentee (early) voting by being open on
more weekends and after hours. (This would have cost implications that should be
addressed in the budget.)

b) Community Input on Comp Plan Update – See Materials from City Planner

c) Re-establish Community Pride Committee – For those who are not aware, the City had
a “Community Pride Committee in the late 1990’s that worked on some code
enforcement issues in Ryan Industrial Park, created the entrance signs used around the
City, did some promotional clothing, and created the “Community Pride Awards” that
recognized a residential and commercial property owner who did an outstanding job with
property appearance. The committee phased out as members left the City. A few years
ago, we tried to start it up again by publishing a notice in our newsletter, but we had very
few responses.

To have a better chance of success this time around, we should decide on a
mission/purpose for the Committee. Here are some ideas that staff came up with. The
list is not meant to be all-inclusive:
• Branding/Identity
• City Apparel
• Code Enforcement Guidance
• Litter Patrol/Pick-up Events
• Develop a city tag line
• Help in choosing photos for new website
• Submit photos for use in various city publications/media
• Other???

To promote the creation of the Committee, we can use our website, Channel 16,
newsletter, and social media.

d) Outreach to Diverse Populations – For general outreach, we envision our new website
to utilize Google Translator so people of different languages will have access to our
information. We can also get the Refuse/Recycling Information prepared by Ramsey
County in different languages. For specific outreach efforts associated with the Comp
Plan Update and Parks Master Planning process, those strategies will be developed as
part of those efforts. From a staff standpoint, we feel it is important to make extra efforts
to involve those living in multiple family dwelling units and our mobile home parks to
ensure their voices are heard.

e) Youth Engagement by connecting volunteers and youth to more activities; especially
youth activities – Some ideas in this area include creating a youth member position on
the Parks & Recreation Commission and possibly the Planning Commission. We also
believe the Parks Master planning process will address this issue in greater detail. We
also are attaching a handbook we found on-line that discussed youth engagement for
municipalities.
