MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
July 6, 2017
stated it would be up at least one week before Canadian Days, just in time
to be used for the survey.

Kost reported there would be several ways for residents to provide
feedback and share their opinions through the survey and through reaching
out to residents at community events, especially Canadian Days. The
Community Services Manager explained the survey would be encouraged
by offering a drawing for City apparel and several gift cards. The survey
would also be advertised via business cards and can coolers at Canadian
Days. He stated the survey would also be advertised in the Le Petit, on the
cable channel, on social media, through the SEH generated web page, and
various other methods to gain publicity. The Community Services
Manager passed around a sign-up sheet to work at the survey booth during
Canadian Days. He explained there would be two hour shifts on Saturday
and they are also looking for volunteers to walk in the Parade on Sunday.
The Community Services Manager stated the new dump truck would be
showcased with banners sponsoring the survey, and the volunteers could
pass out candy and advertising materials. He explained the City Council,
and Planning Commission would also be working at the booth. The
Community Services Manager shared he was also interested in engaging
the Little Canada Recreation Tent. Volunteers will also receive a t-shirt for
helping. Chair Miller suggested Commission members who come to
Canadian Days on Friday also spread the word. The Community Services
Manager agreed and noted Night to Unite and the Ice Cream Social would
also be good opportunities. Sullivan asked when the survey kickoff would
be. Kost indicated it would be the week before Canadian Days. He also
shared it would be about 10 to 12 questions. Chair Miller asked if The
Place Diagram could be included in the survey. Kost explained that would
be a good idea to help focus respondent’s ideas and also help them
brainstorm more ideas. The City Administrator suggested including some
prompts or examples for question two regarding how the parks system is
meeting needs. Kost stated he would prefer not to, so as to allow for more
creativity and freedom. The City Administrator agreed. The Community
Services Manager explained there would be a final question asking for any
additional comments or concerns.

The Community Services Manager reported the August meeting would
need to be rescheduled because the Ice Cream Social is August 3. He
proposed August 2 at 7:00. Sullivan stated she would not be able to attend
the meeting. Ray made a motion to have the meeting on August 2 at 7:00.
Darling seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved.

OTHER
BUSINESS
PARKS MASTER
PLAN COMMUNITY
ENGAGEMENT
