MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />August 2, 2017 <br />The Community Services Manager reported Canadian Days would take <br />place this weekend and the City would have a booth for the <br />Comprehensive Plan and the Parks Master Plan update. He reminded the <br />Commission that several Commissioners were signed up to volunteer at <br />the booth. The Community Services Manager stated the City would also <br />have a dump truck in the parade on Sunday and Commissioners were <br />welcome to walk in the parade and hand out can coolers survey cards, and <br />candy. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported the Susan G. Komen 3-Day <br />Walk would be coming through Little Canada on Saturday August 19, and <br />Canadian Days Committee Member Sue Nelson would be walking her 8th <br />three day walk. He explained she would be doing another in September in <br />a different state. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported there would be two Movie in <br />the Park Events. He explained Sing would be on August 17th and Finding <br />Dory would be on August 31st at the Spooner Park band shell, beginning at <br />dusk. The Community Services Manager explained there would be <br />concessions. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manger reported the Farmer’s Market was held <br />every Monday from 2:30 – 6:00 p.m. He explained there were 6 vendors <br />and a master gardener. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported basketball, soccer, soccer <br />clinic, and volleyball league registration is open for this fall. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported a security system had been <br />installed at the Old Fire Hall Warming House. He explained the <br />restoration would now begin, and the bathrooms would continue to be <br />locked unless the warming house is staffed. The Community Services <br />Manager noted cameras would be put on the Old Fire Hall to monitor <br />activities. He also stated the shed had not yet been removed, as the <br />resident who planned to take it backed out. He reported Public Works was <br />working on getting a disposal bin to get rid of it. The Community Services <br />Manager also noted fireworks had been shot off behind the shed, and <br />hoped its removal would prevent illicit activity. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported Lee’s Sport Surfacing would <br />be resurfacing the Pioneer Park tennis courts and lining them for dual <br />purpose tennis and pickleball late this month. <br /> <br />The Community Services manager reported Keller Parkway would be <br />resurfaced starting August 7th and the project would take 3 weeks.
