Pioneer Park drinking fountain installation near tennis courts - $23,000 <br />- 2019 <br />The City Administrator stated the Pioneer Park drinking fountain <br />installation should be coordinated with playground update. He also noted <br />the trail around Pioneer Park was in need of repair and should be repaired <br />in coordination with the playground update. <br /> <br />The City Administrator asked if the Commission had any changes or <br />additions to prioritization list. He stated the Commission had shown <br />interest in the community garden concept, but staff were unsure of the cost <br />due to many variables. The City Administrator asked the Commission if <br />they had any additional input on the Community Garden concept. He also <br />wanted additional input on the Spooner Park parking lot. The City <br />Administrator noted this was a difficult issue and impacted citizens as well <br />as Canadian Days. He explained buckthorn removal was also programmed <br />into the budget in 2019, 2020, and 2021 for $10,000 each year. The City <br />Administrator stated it may not cost this much, but wanted to have the <br />funds available if needed. <br /> <br />Chair Miller suggested trying out the Community Garden idea like what <br />was being done with the dog park. The Community Services Manager <br />stated that would be feasible through a partnership or volunteer group <br />committed to taking care of the garden. Chu asked if the Community <br />Garden should be moved up on the list. The City Administrator stated with <br />the Commission’s direction, staff could create a placeholder in the budget <br />for the Community Garden next year. <br /> <br />Horwath asked if reordering the powerline trail priorities would help <br />alleviate the timing conflict. The City Administrator explained it would <br />not. He explained the concern was an impact to the truck farm operation. <br />The City Administrator suggested removing number 6 from the list until <br />there was a more definite plan, and the powerline trail could terminate <br />with a small turnaround to steer people away from Edgerton Street. Chair <br />Miller agreed it would be more cost effective to wait until the truck farm <br />operation was sold. Horwath wondered if the owner would sell the <br />property. The City Administrator stated it would eventually happen, but <br />couldn’t speak as to when that would happen. Horwath worried the tunnel <br />wasn’t justified without both trail segments.
