MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 22, 2002
the proximity of the Snyders store to the shopping center in order to coordinate
the architectural appearance of the area. The Planner feh that the
redevelopment that will happen at Rice Street and Little Canada Road was too
far away to tie in architectural elements. The Planner felt it better to
coordinate the architectural elements of the Snyders store with the Market
Place Shopping Center.
LaValle asked if there would he any metal on the Snyders building. Johnson
replied that the only metal will be the parapet caps and the top of the gables.
Montour asked about the relationship of the pylon sign proposed for Snyders
with the existing Market Place Shopping Center pylon. The City
Administrator reported that the existing Marlret Place pylon will remain in the
same general location that it currently exists.
There was no one present from the general public wishing to comment on this
matter.
Upon motion by LaValle, seconded by Montour, the public hearing was
closed.
Montour pointed out that the Rice Street view of the building shows a gable on
one end with the rest of the roof having the appearance of a long, flat
appearance. The Planner noted that the gables are false gables, and that the flat
roof concept has a more commercial appearance. "I'he Planner indicated that
the architectural guidelines encourage a mix of building facades and roof
types.
Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
REbY)LUTION NO. 2002-5-777-APPRGVING THE PROPERTY
D/V/.SIGN, PLANNED UN/T UG VELOPMGNT PERMIT AND
ARCHITEC'TURAI.
