MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNT/ 2G, 2002
LaValle pointed out that IClosl<in indicated he is actively looking for
property that can be used for storage. ICloskin agreed that he was looking
for oPl=site storage, and that the Country Drive property would not become
a storage lot.
Anderson asked if he brought his boat in to Boater's Outlet in November
for repairs, would it be possible that he would not have to pick up that boat
until May. Kloskin replied that that was a possibility.
Johnson pointed out that there would be a limited amount of those kinds of
storage spaces given the need for maneuvering space as well. Boats will
noC be stacked, the area will be screened, and the public will not be able to
see the boats.
Anderson felt that the Council had to be honest that a portion of this
property use will be outdoor storage.
Fahey suggested that the City put a limit on the nrnnber of boats that can
be stored on the property
Scalze stated that she felC the property operated very well the way it has
over the years. Now the proposal is to plant some pine trees across the
middle of the paii<ing lot and add outdoor storage. Scalze felt that a
thriving boat and motor business would need a lot of outdoor storage.
Scalze stated that she opposed the rezoning of the property and felt the
business did not fit the location.
Anderson pointed out the Council action relative to the B-W District was
focused on the Knox property and was a means of providing for a higher
use on a very visible piece of property. Anderson pointed out that this
particular property cannot be developed any more.
There was no one else present wishing to comment on this matter.
Upon motion by LaValle, seconded by Fahey, the public hearing was
closed.
The City Administrator suggested that based on the changes in the layout
of the outdoor storage area discussed Chis evening, that the applicant be
required to submit a revised site plan showing storage area, drive lanes,
screening, etc. before action is taken by the Council. The Administrator
indicated that this site plan should be reviewed by the Sheriff's
Department focusing on security and screening as well as City staff
focusing on screening and emergency vehicle access.
