MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
June 5, 2008
DATE as it currently is scheduled for July 3 and many might not be able to attend because of
the holiday weekend. Fahey made a motion to change the date for the July meeting to
Tuesday, July 8`~', at 7:30 p.m., seconded by Neis. Motion carried 7-0.
OLD Sanders reported that there will be a meeting with the contractor, Bailey Construction,
BUSINESS- within the next week as the paperwork has been completed, such as the contract, insurance,
SKATEBOARD and bonds. Davis asked when work would begin. Sanders expects it to start the middle of
PARK June, completed by the first part of August. The contractor has until September 1 to complete
the project. Davis stated that the initial projected completion date of mid summer was very
optimistic. Morelan will be ordering the equipment for the park and it is expected to take
six to eight weeks for equipment to arrive. Fahey believed that Jim Morelan was acquiring
additional bids from equipment manufacturers other than the one we have seen.
LIGHTING Sanders stated that the low bid for this lighting project was Killmer Electric at $65,900.00.
PROJECTS The project is for replacement lighting for the Old Fire Hall hockey rink and the Spooner
Park tennis courts. The contract, insurance and bond papers have been received from this
contractor also. He is hopeful that there will be a meeting with Killmer Electric within the
next week.
Neis asked if the City Council had approved these bids. Sanders responded that they have
approved both bids for the skateboard park concrete and lighting contractors.
RECON- Sanders reported that there have been discussions with St. John's Church for relocation
FIGURATION of the pleasure rink as well as future Water Works Trail land. A report on this topic will be
OF OFH RINK from Morelan and he was not in attendance to give that progress report.
PRIORITY Davis stated she was uncomfortable with the priority ranking of the trail system that was
RANKING OF approved at the May meeting. She would like the crossing for the 35E Pedestrian Bridge
TRAILS now proposed to cross at Demont Avenue to be closer to Little Canada Road. She would
like to see the ranking for the 35E Pedestrian Bridge be lowered on the list from the current
position of #7. She also thought that the #12 ranked project, County Road B2, Viking Drive,
Demont Avenue connections should be raised in the ranking. Fahey suggested just switching
the two projects in the ranking listing. Steinert commented that the ranking list changes every
year, so any changes could be made in future years. Sanders suggested moving #7, the
35E Pedestrian Bridge, to the #12 position and move #9, #10, #11, #12 all up one position.
Steinwall made that motion, seconded by Fahey, motion carried 7-0.
The trail project priority listing is now ranked as follows:
I .) Country Drive and South Owasso Loop to Waterworks Trail
2.) Waterworks Trail -from Little Canada Road to Sextant
3.) Little Canada Road - fi•om Centerville Road to Edger•Con Street
4.) North/South Connection- Middle School to Troutbrook
5.) Sunset Court/Turnquist Wetland Trail to Boardwalk
6.) Rice Street Trail
7.) Labore Road- Desoto Street to County Road D
8.) Centerville Road/County Road D
