MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
June 7, 2001
Sackett Glaser stated that she will handle submission of the nomination to the Friends of the
Parks and Trails.
TRAIL The City Administrator stated that there has not been a lot of cooperation to-date from the
SYSTEM property owners along Payne Avenue regarding acquisition of an easement to complete the
trail system. He stated that the key property owner is unwilling to meet to discuss the matter.
However, he has spoken to them briefly. They are unwilling to sell an easement. The City
Adminish~ator also discussed the possibility of selling their entire parcel to the City in the
future if they decide to move. The City Administrator did not contact the property owner to
the north as he felt this could be done at a later date given that we need a connection under
Edgerton Street. Time may change the circumstances.
Broten asked about the possibility of acquiring half of the easement from the property owner
to the south and half from the property owner to the north. Sanders felt that would work.
However, the City Administrator stated that it was his impression that the property owner to
the south would not be in favor of selling a portion of their property for an easement.
The City Administrator stated that completion of the Little Canada Road trail has been
delayed due to the cement workers going on strike. It is hopeful that work will commence
Monday. The strike also held up installation of the traffic light at Little Canada Road/Rice
Street and has delayed the sidewalk along Jackson Street to Rondeau Parlc.
Sanders felt that it maybe time to talk to Maplewood again about connecting our trail system
under the power lines to their trails.
Sanders stated that the grant applications have not been sent out yet. They should be mailed
in July, with an August due date.
CONCERTS Sackett Glaser stated that the bands will be as follows:
• July 11 -Kids Dance
• July 18 -Roseville Area Jazz Band
• July 25 -Tentatively Splatter Sisters (may change due to a possible conflict Splatter
Sisters have with the date)
• August 1 -The District
Sackett Glaser stated that we may come in under budget and if so, the extra money should be
used for advertising. The Commission felt that two black/yellow signs should beused --one
at the comer of Little Canada Road/Centerville Road and one at Little Canada Road/Rice
Street. Steinert mentioned that he will check into prices for renting the signs. The City
Administrator stated that possibly the Canadian Days Committee will let us use their sign.
The City Administrator stated that our Cable TV Producer will be taping the concerts for
promotion on Little Canada's Cable Channel 16. Sackett Glaser stated that she will check
with Horvath to make sure this is okay with the bands.
