MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 23, 2000
Since that redevelopment is not occurring at this time, Schroeder felt that
the road could be reconstructed in an attractive manner eliminating the
medians that were originally proposed and keeping the reconstruction
within existing right-of--way.
The City Administrator pointed out that Michael Schroeder has not looked
at the issue of the western most access for The Venetian Inn onto Little
Canada Road. He still has some work he would like to do on the concept
plan.
The City Engineer indicated that he met with the owners of The Venetian
Inn and while they have not agreed to access locations, they will discuss
the matter and get back to him. The Engineer noted that if the direction of
the Council is to pursue Michael Schroeder's design, then the discussion
with The Venetian Inn is mute because there will be no island that would
prohibit left turns onto Little Canada Road.
Scalze asked if The Venetian would be allowed full access to Little
Canada Road. The Engineer pointed out that there is no history of
accidents in this area of Little Canada Road. He indicated that he was
more concerned about the redevelopment of the area and different uses
with traffic patterns different from The Venetians. The Engineer noted,
however, that the City will have site plan review at the time the area
redevelops and traffic patterns can be reviewed at that time.
The City Planner indicated that the Zoning Code requires that access
points be a minimum of 60 feet from an intersection. The City Engineer
pointed out the ambiguity in determining where to measure the 60 feet
from.
Fahey felt that the City should make this road reconstruction work for the
existing business. Fahey pointed out that The Venetian has been in this
location for a long time and there has been no history of a traffic problem
with their access to Little Canada Road.
Pedersen felt that the Code should be followed for curb placement.
The Council indicated their consensus in favor of pursuing the design
diagram submitted by Michael Schroeder for that portion of Little Canada
Road adjacent to The Venetian Inn.
SCHREIER The City Administrator reviewed the proposed purchase agreement for
PURCHASE the Schreier property. He indicated that the agreement has been reviewed
to
