MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 23, 2000
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Fahey.
Ayes (4) Scalze, Fahey, Morelan, Pedersen.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
AMENDMENT Mayor Fahey noted the proposal to amend the City's Organized
TO REFUSE Collection Ordinance to allow employees of refuse collection
ORDINANCE businesses who are also residents of the City to have their refuse picked up
by their employers.
Elvie Day, 2660 Lakeshore Avenue, appeared before the Council and
reported on the poor service provided by BFI. She noted that BFI will
pick up sticks and leaves at an additional charge. The only other option to
her would be to have a recreational fire. Day felt that BFI should provide
this pickup as part of their normal service.
The Council informed Day that the City has athree-year contract with the
refuse haulers. Her comments would be taken into consideration at the
time of contract renewal. Scalze suggested that, in the meantime, Day
could bring leaves and sticks to the City's annual clean-up day. There is a
nominal charge for this collection of about $2 per load.
LITTLE The City Engineer reported that Michael Schroeder of Hoisington
CANADA Koegler has reviewed the Little Canada Road improvement and is
ROAD suggesting a 46 foot roadway with no concrete medians and pushing
IMPROVEMENT streetscape improvements to the boulevard areas. The road design would
consist of two lanes with a common turn lane. The Engineer pointed out
that this design could exist within the 66 feet ofright-of--way for Little
Canada Road. However, the streetlights and concrete sidewalks are
pushed right up to the edge of the right-of--way. Therefore, there is no area
left for snow storage. The Engineer pointed out that under this design the
City can come back later when The Venetian Inn site redevelops and
widen the roadway if that is the City's desire.
The Engineer indicated that he would be checking with the County to
determine the width of the street that they will require.
Scalze asked about the access points for The Venetian Inn onto Little
Canada Road.
Pedersen pointed out that the redevelopment guide had considered a
parkway plan for Little Canada Road as past of redevelopment of the area.
Additional right-of--way would be obtained at the time of redevelopment.
