MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 9, 2000
LITTLE
CANADA
ROAD
IMPROVEMENT
The City Engineer recommended the posting of Little Canada Road as
no parking from Rice Street to County Road C. It was noted that this
is a requirement given the use of State Aid Funds for the improvement
of Little Canada Road.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOI, UTION NO. 2000-5-124 -AUTHORIZING THE POSTING OF
LITTLE CANADA ROAD FROM RICE STREET TO COUNTY ROAD
CAS NO PARKING AS RECOMMENDED BY THE CITY
ENC,INEER
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Morelan.
Ayes (4) Scalze, Morelan, Pedersen, Fahey.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
The City Engineer presented the streetscape plans which have been drafted
by Michael Schroeder of Hoisington Koegler, and described the various
amenities which are a part of that streetscape. He noted that colored
concrete rather than pavers are being proposed along the boulevard area.
Morelan asked about the heaving and cracking of the concrete area. The
Engineer reported that a 4-inch aggregate base would be installed.
Therefore, there should be no more cracking than any sidewalk area.
Scalze indicated that she liked pavers given that the patterns would add
character to the area. She asked the cost of embossing the concrete area to
make it more aesthetically pleasing. The Engineer was not sure of the cost
of embossing, but indicated that he would obtain this information for the
Council. Scalze stated that she would like to see what the concrete
boulevard area would look like and as well as the colors being proposed
for the various amenities.
The City Engineer went on to describe the intersection amenities and
landscaping elements. Pedersen noted the reconfiguration of the pond.
Morelan asked if planters were above grade. The City Engineer replied
that they were. The planters are pre-case concrete pots and there will be
two different sizes of pots disbursed along the streetscape.
Scalze indicated that the pots used in the area of the transit hub at the
Market Place Shopping Center should match the ones used on Little
Canada Road.
The City Engineer indicated that along Little Canada Road between the
railroad tracks and County Road C the streetscape will consist of tree
