MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 27, 2000
LITTLE
CANADA
ROAD
IMPROVEMENT
The City Administrator asked the Council's position on the matter
of electrical outlets on the street lights to be installed as part of the
Little Canada Road improvement. Morelan indicated his support for
the installation of the outlets, pointing out that the cost will increase
dramatically if they need to be installed later. He also felt that if the
outlets are available, they will be put to use and would be a nice amenity
for the area. Morelan felt it would be shortsighted not to include the
outlets.
Scalze indicated that while she feels strongly that utilities in the area
should be buried, she does not feel the same way about the installation of
the outlets. Scalze pointed out that there was no provenjustification for
the outlets other than they might be nice to have some day. Therefore, she
did not support the installation of the outlets at this time.
Fahey felt it was best to include the outlets of flzis time, and he did not
want to be shortsighted on this matter.
Pedersen stated that he was not in favor of the outlets.
It was the consensus of the Council to table action on this matter until the
full Council was present.
Council discussed the issue of burying utilities for the seven residential
properties on Little Canada Road as part of the project. They also
reviewed the street lighting contract with NSP for decorative lighting as
parC of the project. The City Administrator reported that it appears likely
the City can use MSA funding to assist in the cost of the decorative streets
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOL UTION NO. 2000-6-158 -APPROVING TIIE INSTALLATION
OF UNDERGROUND SERVICES FOR THE RESIDENTIAL
PROPERTIES ALONG LITTLE CANADA ROAD AS PART OF THE
STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT AS RECOMMENDED BY
CITY STAFF, APPROVING THE STREET LIGHTING CONTRACT
WITHNORTHERNSTATES POWER FOR DECORATIVE STREET
LIGHTING AND AUTHORIZING TKE MAYOR AND CITY
ADMINISTRATOR TO EXECUTE THE CONTRACT ON BEHALF
OF THE CITY
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Morelan.
Ayes (4) Scalze, Morelan, Pedersen, Fahey.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
