MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JULY 12, 2000
as warnings. The City has imposed a charge for the opening of the shelter
given that a City employee must open and staff the space.
It was the consensus of the Council that the basement of St. John's Church
was an acceptable interim shelter, pointing out that the feasibility of an on-
site shelter is being pursued.
Morelan suggested that given the difficulty is getting from North Star
Estates to either St. John's Church or the Old Fire Hall due to the
intersection of Country Drive and Little Canada Road, that the storm
shelter be opened during storm watches as well as warnings. Morelan
asked if North Star Estates would be opening the basement of St. John's
Church during watches.
Tom Ludden, manager of North Star Estates, indicated that he would be
willing to open the storm shelter during both warnings and watches. He
reported that he would contact St. John's Church to advise them of this
policy.
Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOI. UTION NO. 2000-7--170 -APPROVING THE 73ASEMENT OF
ST. JOHN'S CHURCHAS A TEMPORARYSTORM SHEL TER FOR
NORTH STAR ESTATES THROUGH MARCH 31, 2001 PENDING
THE PURSUIT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT
FUNDS TO CONSTRUCT AN ON-SITE STORM SHELTER, WITH
THE REQUIREMENT THAT THE SHELTER ]3E OPENED DURING
]30TH WATCHES AND WARNINGS AND WITH THE
REQUIREMENT THAT A REVISED EMERGENCY EVACUATION
PLAN I3E SUBMITTED REFLECTING THESE CHANGES
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (4) Fahey, Scalze, Pedersen, Morelan.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
JULY 7r" The City Administrator reported that Precision Tree will be picking up
STORM branches from the July 7°i storm, and that a flyer has been distributed to
DAMAGE residents describing the specifics for removal of storm debris. Fahey
pointed out that the flyer calls for branches to be cut in 4-foot lengths, and
that some residents have already cut the wood in fire wood lengths of
approximately 2 feet. Fahey requested that Precision Tree not be too rigid
with the 4-foot length stipulation.
