MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
March 2, 2000
also stated that Pioneer Park is well in compliance with the National Recreation & Park
Association's recommendation for parking at parks.
Sackett GCaser recommended that the Council consider revising the parking requireneents
for parklands withicc the City iu an effort to make our parks compliant, taking into
consideration the National Recreation & Park Association's recommendations for parking
in parks.
Motion seconded by Danielson.
Motion carried 7- 0.
CONCERTS Danielson stated that she has received the Music in the Park information she needed from
former Commission Member Muriel Bianchi and some recommended changes Bianchi had
for this year's series. Bianchi felt that the series should begin at 7:30 p.rn. instead of 7:00
p.m. since many people did not appear until 7:30 p.m. She also felt there should be an
ending time assigned to the performances.
Danielson asked if there were any bands from the past that the City wanted to continue to
have perform. The Commission felt that the High School Jazz Band and a band for kids
should be retained. The Teddy Bear Band or The Splatter Sisters were suggested for kids'
bands. Danielson stated that she has spoken with representatives of the band called "The
District" and they are very interested in performing. She stated that she has heard the group
and they are very good. Also, music from that group would appeal to all ages.
The newsletter deadline is Monday, April 24. The concerts will be held on Wednesday
nights in July. Danielson stated that she will have the bands selected by the next meeting.
She will be contacting The District, The Splatter Sisters, and the Roseville Area High School
Jazz Band to perform. However, she does need one more band. She encouraged
Commission Members to contact her with suggested bands.
The Director stated that $2,000 has typically been budgeted from the City. He will also ask
for donations from the charitable organizations.
PROJECTS The Pioneer Park lighting project is almost complete. A control panel will be installed within
the next two weeks. Anderson suggested having a lighting ceremony. He stated that the
neighbors could be invited.
Plans for the Spooner/Gervais Mill Park entrances are almost done and those projects will be
out for bid within the next week.
Len Pratt, the developer of Twin Lake Pines, has been informed of the City's position
relative to the Vadnais Boulevard trail. However, plans for the trail have not been developed
yet.
