Regular Meeting - August 13, 1958
The Clerk read a letter received from Milner W. Carley & Associates re-
garding drainage on Sunrise Drive. The engineer estimated that to change the grade
on the South portion of Sunrise Drive and construct a bituminous lined gutter along
the East slope of Sunrise Drive would cost approximately $1,200.00.
Upon motion by Vitale, seconded by Nadeau, it was
"RESOLVED, That a copy of the engineer's report be forwarded
to Mr. Robert Thibault with the explanation that the Village
does not Eeel justified in spending $1,200.00 unless at least
the mayor portion of this cost would be assessed against bene-
fitted property owners."
Ayes -- 5 Nays - 0
The resolution was adopted.
The Clerk read a letter from Magney, Tusler and Setter, architects for the
school district, concerning ,storm water drainage on Flower Street East of Rice Street.
It was reported that the Village Engineer is working with the school architects to ac-
complish the necessary solution to the drainage problem.
Mr, Davies of the Minnesota Highway Department appeared before the Council
and requested that the Council adopt a series of resolutions prepared by the Highway
Department approving the plans for Highway #390, the freeway which is being built
North and South through the Village, and the bridges along that route, also a re-
alignment of Highway #36 near the Soo Line Railroad and the construction of a bridge
at that point. After considerable discussion with particular reference to the plans
for the construction of Highway #390, Mr. Davies was advised that adoption of the
resolutions approving the general plans for Highway #390 would be withheld pending
the following:
1. Agreement by the Highway Department to connect McMenemy Road
South of Highway #36 to the service lane on the South side of
Highway #36;
2, Accurate information from the Highway Department as to the kind,
size and location of equalizer pipes to be placed in the fill
across Savage Lake.
The Council also informed Mr. Davies that they would approve the bridges and the
changes on Highway #36 in the vicinity of the Soo Line Railroad.
Upon motion by Loeffler, seconded by Nadeau, the following resolution
was submitted:
"WHEREAS, The Commissioner of Highways has prepared plans and
specifications for Bridge No. 9212, Trunk Highway No. 36 under the
Soo Line Railroad, for improvement of a part of Trunk Highway No.
118, renumbered as Trunk Highway No. 36 within the corporate limits
of the Village of Little Canada; and
"WHEREAS, Said plans are on file in the office of the Depart-
ment of Highways, Saint Paul, Minnesota, being marked, labeled and
identified as Bridge No. 9212, State Prod.
