Name: Little Canada Road Pavers Project –Pedestrian Crossing Analysis
Date: April 16, 2020
Page: 3

2. Use the marked crossing at Middle Street. This crossing is currently marked, includes W11-2
pedestrian warning signs with downward facing arrows for both directions of travel, and includes
pedestrian ramps. The Highway Capacity Manual provides methodology for estimating
pedestrian delay at unsignalized crossings, which results in 28 seconds per pedestrian on average
at this location if crossing during a peak vehicular travel hour. Crossing at this location would be
preferred for pedestrians traveling to/from the bowling alley or further east. If the destination is
The Village or Culver’s area, this would add approximately 3 minutes to the overall trip as
compared to crossing at Rice Street.
Crossing Options

Market Place Drive Crossing
Existing Conditions
The existing crossing is marked but not signed. The crossing is approximately 50’ long and crosses two
lanes (eastbound travel lane and westbound travel lane) as well as a center gore area. The photo below
documents this condition.

Option 1
Option 2
