MINUTES <br />PARKS & REC COMMISSION <br />NOVEMBER 5, 2020 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />3 <br />The Community Services Manager stated that he would plan to add that to the CIP once the work <br />is done by the subcommittee with replacement cost estimates. He stated that although the <br />subcommittee work will not be completed in time to add to this version of the plan, projects can <br />be shifted. He stated that he placed projects within the CIP timeline based on the Parks Master <br />Plan that the group previously worked on. <br /> <br />Commissioner Chu commented that she is intrigued by the fitness equipment. She stated that the <br />Commission previously discussed a roof for a picnic shelter at Spooner Park and asked if that is <br />included. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager replied that was originally scheduled for 2020 but will now <br />be completed in the spring of 2021. <br /> <br />Commissioner Chu asked if the same consultant would continue to work with the City. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager replied that there would be consulting work to place the <br />Parks Master Plan information into a document but was unsure that the same consultant would <br />be used. He noted that the City has an engineering consultant that could provide assistance. <br /> <br />Chair Miller noted that the Little Canada Rec Association could also provide assistance on <br />different items. <br /> <br />Commissioner Schletty commented that perhaps there would also be grants available for bike <br />racks. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS: COOKIES WITH SANTA EVENT <br />The Community Services Manager stated that the City is committed to doing a Cookies with <br />Santa event this year in some format. He stated that staff is considering a drive-through event on <br />Saturday, December 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. He stated that staff continues to work on the logistics, <br />noting that they envision handing out goodie bags to the vehicles as they drive-thru with Santa <br />waving. He stated that the City is also holding the Toys for Tots and warm jacket collection <br />events. He stated that perhaps some of the different City groups (Commissions, Fire <br />Department, City Council) involved in the Cookies with Santa event to show support for the <br />community. He noted that an email was sent out to garner interest and asked the Commissioners <br />to respond to staff if interested in participating. <br /> <br />Commissioner Darling asked if staff needs volunteers to help with planning. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager replied that there are a group of volunteers that are assisting <br />with event planning and traffic control. He noted that the Commissioners would only be asked <br />to smile and wave. <br />
