City maintenance personnel have noted that there are
no known deficiencies with the sanitary sewer systems. Bolton and Menk staff have reviewed each of
the sanitary sewer structures within the project area. The structures are precast and in good condition
with only minor improvements/repairs required. Based on the age, material, and positive performance,
the useful like of the sanitary system, post improvements, is expected to outlast the pavement
improvements described in this report.
The existing City of Vadnais Heights sanitary sewer is 8-inch polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and conveys
wastewater east towards Vadnais Boulevard. City maintenance personnel have noted that there are no
known deficiencies with the sanitary sewer systems. Bolton and Menk staff have reviewed each of the
sanitary sewer structures within the project area. The structures are precast and in good condition with
only minor improvements/repairs required. Based on the age, material, and positive performance, the
useful like of the sanitary system, post improvements, is expected to outlast the pavement
improvements described in this report.
Refer to Figure 2 in Appendix A for a depiction of the existing sanitary sewer infrastructure.
WATERMAIN
The existing City of Little Canada watermain is 8-inch diameter DIP and HDPE extending north from
Country Drive. The water system has performed well, with no known deficiencies with the system.
Based on the age, type, and positive performance of the watermain, the useful life of the system, post
improvements, is expected to outlast the pavement improvements described in this report.
The existing City of Vadnais Heights watermain is an 8-inch diameter ductile iron pipe extending north
from Vadnais Blvd. The water system has performed well, with no known deficiencies with the system.
Based on the age, type, and positive performance of the watermain, the useful life of the system, post
improvements, is expected to outlast the pavement improvements described in this report.
Refer to Figure 2 in Appendix A for a depiction of the existing watermain infrastructure.
STORM SEWER
The roadway section between Bankers Drive and Mayfair Road is urban with storm sewer and curb and
gutter. Stormwater is conveyed to a low point where water is discharged northward along Five Star
Estates and then back south through a deep culvert that runs to Twin Lake.
West of Bankers Drive and East of Mayfair Road the roadway section is rural without curb and gutter or
storm sewer. Stormwater is conveyed off the roadway to roadside ditches and swales. Existing storm
sewer culverts carry drainage underneath the roadway. The area west of Bankers Drive is a
subwatershed that discharges to Vadnais Lake. The subwatershed east of Bankers Drive discharges to
Twin Lake. City maintenance personnel for each City have noted that there are known deficiencies with
the storm sewer system. Bolton and Menk staff reviewed each of the storm sewer structures within the
project area. The structures at the low point along Five Star Estates are in poor condition and require
major rehabilitation or replacement. Overall, the storm sewer system is in moderate condition and the
useful life of the system, with proposed improvements, is expected to outlast the pavement
improvements described in this report.
Refer to Figure 2 in Appendix A for a depiction of the existing storm sewer infrastructure.
