MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
FEBRUARY 12, 2009
in the City. The Planner suggested a structured base be added to the pylon
or else a landscape base. Wagner reported that he would have already
added landscaping at the base of the sign, but has been waiting for a
determination as to where the rain water garden will go. Wagner stated
that if the City is asking for a brick base, it would be less expensive for
him to lower the pylon sign. The Commission discussed the extent of the
improvements and it was suggested that landscaping around the sign base
would be adequate and add an aesthetic element to the area.
There was no one present from the general public wishing to comment on
this matter.
Pechmann recommended approval of the Comprehensive Sign Plan for a
multi-tenant building located at 3225 Country Drive subject to compliance
with the recommendations of the City Planner as outlined in his February
5, 2009 report, subject to the City Planner making a final determination on
the amount of signage that would be allowed for this property and
reporting that figure to the City Council, and subject to the addition of
landscaping at the base of the pylon sign.
Motion seconded by Duray.
Motion carried 6 - 0.
AMENDMENT Ken Sheehan, Architectural Alliance, appeared before the Commission
TO requesting an amendment to the Comprehensive Sign Plan for St. Jude
COMPRE- Medical located on County Road B-2 East. Sheehan reviewed the
HENSIVE proposed signage locations along County Road B-2 East. He noted that
SIGN PLAN- two directional signs are proposed, one identifying the employee entrance
COUNTY ROAD and the other identifying the service entrance. Sheehan also noted that
B-2 EAST - a monument sign is proposed identifying the main entrance to visitors.
ST. JUDE
MEDICAL Sheehan reported that the goal of this signage is to provide safe vehicular
access to the property and on County Road B-2. He noted that there are
two schools in the area and a lot of traffic on the street at various times.
Therefore, it is important to have the appropriate visual cues for visitors,
employees, and vendors to access the property.
Sheehan reported that the City's Code talks about directional signs being 4
square feet in size. The directional signs being proposed are just less than
6 square feet each, and Sheehan asked for approval to exceed to 4 square
feet to a dimension no larger than 6 square feet.
Sheehan reported that another issue is the signage setback locations. The
employee directional sign and the service directional sign meets the City's
five foot setback requirements. He noted the numerous easements in the
-3-
