STAFF REPORT
Canadian Days

TO: Mayor Fischer and Members of the City Council

FROM: Bryce Shearen, CPRP, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Director
DATE: January 25, 2023
RE: City Website Update

ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED
No formal action is requested. Informational update to the City Council.
BACKGROUND
In 2018, a much-needed new City website went live utilizing the CivicPlus software and hosting
services. City staff formed an internal staff committee for the design and implementation
process.
The current CivicPlus-powered website provides end-users with easy navigation, search
capabilities, enhanced accessibility features, and a mobile-friendly interface. The administrative
side of the site also offers user-friendly features that have allowed staff to use the website as one
of the main communication tools for the community. Each year we continue to see more user
traffic on the website and we commonly direct residents to use the website for information.
Overall, staff has been very satisfied with the CivicPlus software and more Minnesota cities are
using CivicPlus, which offers a nice standardized template and familiarity for users when going
to local government websites.

Fun Fact: The City website receives approximately 495 views a day.
Part of the contract with CivicPlus is a website redesign/refresh every four years to give the
website a fresh look which was one of the reasons for choosing CivicPlus back in 2018.
