Staff reached out to CivicPlus in early 2022 to start the process for a redesign. With limited staff
capacity and other priority projects, the project was finally able to get started in August 2022.
Similar to the previous website implementation process, staff formed a website redesign
committee to work through the process. The Committee consists of Bryce Shearen, Parks &
Recreation/Community Services Director (who led the implementation process of the current
site), Recreation Coordinator, Sierra Hietala (experience in website design and tasked with being
the Point of Contact for this project), and the City Clerk/HR Manager, Heidi Heller (involved in
the implementation process of the current site).
The Committee met with CivicPlus for a project kickoff meeting in September 2022 and
reviewed the redesign process or refresh, which is only a change in the design and layout of the
website and not changing the content or overall site navigation. With that in mind, the committee
went to work reflecting on the current website, updating content, reviewing over fifty local
government websites from around the country that recently went through a similar redesign
process with CivicPlus, and discussing potential design changes to the City’s website.
Additionally, staff looked at website analytics and discussed with other departments to see if
some changes should be made to provide easier navigation to the pages that are heavily used or
have frequently answered questions more visible.
CURRENT WEBSITE
The current website utilizes darker colors and includes colors that do not necessarily reflect Little
Canada. The website is very blocky with a lot of information towards the bottom of the home
page which can be easily missed, or just too content-heavy.
